IN THE NEWS » McAfee & Taft rated by employees as one of the ‘Best Places to Work’ in Tulsa

“Of all the honors that we’ve received this year, this one is extra special,” said McAfee & Taft managing director Richard Nix. He extended heartfelt thanks to the attorneys, paralegals, and professional and support staff in the law firm’s Tulsa office for rating the firm as one of the best places to work in Tulsa.

McAfee & Taft is the publisher of EmployerLINC as well as other industry-focused and legal specialty publications and resources, including RegLINC for regulated industries, AgLINC for agriculture-related industries, and tIPsheet for intellectual property-focused news and commentary. It’s the second time in as many days that the firm has made headlines, this time for an honor that many employers strive for.

The firm is among 20 honorees selected for the Tulsa Business Journal’s Employees’ Choice Awards: Best Places to Work for 2012. This honor was based on the results of surveys submitted by employees of Tulsa-based employers, generating an overall employee satisfaction rating. The five companies with the highest satisfaction ratings in each of four categories based on number of employees were selected.

“You are surrounded by smart, positive, energetic people who are empowered and given support to use their talents,” reported one McAfee & Taft employee responding to the survey, according to Tulsa Business Journal.

“McAfee & Taft is committed to my professional development,” said another firm staff member. “It provides me all the resources necessary for me to improve and succeed every day.”

The Tulsa Business Journal asked Nix what the firm offers that leads to exceptional employee satisfaction.

“Over the years, our firm has developed a collegial and collaborative culture where employees are valued, respected and treated with professionalism,” Nix said. “In addition, with the great clients that our firm works with, team members have the opportunity to work on challenging, meaningful and even landmark cases, transactions and client matters. All that plus competitive compensation and a generous benefits package has helped the firm attract and retain top talent. Throughout our firm’s history, we’ve maintained a very high retention rate—especially for this industry.”

So what does McAfee & Taft look for in an employee?

“Someone who is a dedicated, intelligent, diligent, client-focused and trustworthy team player with integrity and a strong work ethic,” Nix said. “Everyone plays an important role here, and when you have all the right pieces in place, the whole is much greater than the sum of its parts.

“We have one of the best teams in the business—from attorneys to paralegals to management to professional and support staff—and they are the reason that our firm has been so successful and grown over these last 60 years.”

McAfee & Taft has recently joined the ranks of the nation’s top 250 law firms, becoming the first Oklahoma firm to make the National Law Journal‘s list. Some of the firm’s most significant growth has come in the last four years since the opening of its Tulsa office in 2008—which has more than quadrupled in size during that time and resulted in the firm moving its offices to larger space in Mapco Plaza a couple years ago and expanding within that building again within the last year.

A full-service civil practice firm with 180 lawyers and offices in both Tulsa and Oklahoma City, McAfee & Taft serves clients nationally and internationally across nearly 100 different practice areas.

The Employees’ Choice Award honorees were formally recognized at a special banquet at the Hyatt Regency Tulsa, with Oklahoma Secretary of Commerce Dave Lopez as keynote speaker.

Several of McAfee & Taft’s attorneys and staff gathered in the lobby of Mapco Plaza,
where the firm’s Tulsa offices are located, to celebrate the honor.
